Guerlain – Over 150 Years in Perfume Industry

41MTOmlsDTL. AA300 Guerlain PerfumesGuerlain is just about the oldest perfume houses on this planet. Its origins date dating back to 1828, when a perfumer named Pierre-François Pascal Guerlain opened an outlet on 42 Rue de Rivoli in Paris. Pierre-François was both store's first perfumer and founder, current help of his two sons he created and created unique fragrances. His perfumes earned him the continuing support and patronage of several members of high society at the time, and by 1840 he could open its flagship store at 15, Rue de la Paix.

In recent times, the role of master perfumer working was handed down inside family, first to Pierre-François's sons, etc. Currently, Jean-Paul Guerlain is the master perfumer, four generations down on the founding from the company. Together with his retirement in sight, however, with no family heirs, chances are that the role of master perfumer would eventually be filled by someone from the outside their family.

This long history attests towards staying power of Guerlain's company and the scents and perfumes that their perfumers produce. They have long been known to be a high quality perfumer in the higher circles of European society. Lots of the company's perfumes are already highly acclaimed over the years, and some of them have become real classics and legends in the field.

Several of its scents, such as Jicky, come from as far back as 1889, and has remained popular in the long reputation the company. That scent was one of the company's many innovative offerings. It's acknowledged as usually the one of the first perfumes make use of synthetics, offering users an entirely new scent. Right at that moment, perfumes were usually meant to mimic natural scents, like bouquets of flowers.

In 1994, Guerlain was acquired by Moët Hennessy Lv (LVMH), the largest luxury goods conglomerate on this planet. Many prestigious luxury brands are actually part of LVMH, including such perfumers as Christian Dior and Givenchy. So while Guerlain is actually no longer a family-run business, sure it's in good company within LVMH.
